Cody Gakpo has transfer agreement as Manchester United eye PSV star

Manchester United have been handed a boost in their reported chase to sign PSV starlet Cody Gakpo.

Gakpo, 23, was earmarked as a possible alternative to Antony during the summer transfer window before Erik ten Hag and key figures in the Old Trafford boardroom eventually struck up an agreement with Ajax for the Brazil man. Signing both players at the same time was always going to be a difficult ask.

Despite suggesting a move to United was on the cards, Gakpo stayed put in the Eredivisie and he's been in superb form at the start of this campaign. Indeed, the Netherlands international has scored 10 goals and laid on nine assists for PSV in 13 games across all competitions - underlining his status on the European stage.

Moving forward, interest in Gakpo from the Premier League and other top divisions is almost certain to be revived and would-be suitors have been offered genuine hope in winning the race for his signature. Speaking about Gakpo during an interview with Voetbal International, PSV director Marcel Brands hinted there is an agreement in place to allow him to leave on the proviso their asking price is met.

Brands said: "I can say, with my hand on my heart, that there has been no offer for Cody to which the management or the supervisory board have said. We must do this.

"We did state that if there were certain offers, we would have to sell. [This is] not only from a financial point of view, but also because agreements were made with the Gakpo camp before my time."

With Arsenal, Leeds United and Southampton all linked with moves for the Dutchman in recent weeks, it appears United may have some competition for his signature, however.
