Cody Gakpo declares Manchester United 'honour' as he issues transfer update

PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo has said that "it would be an honour" to play for Manchester United as he speaks out over his future once again.

Erik ten Hag was keen on bringing Gakpo to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window, yet a deal failed to materialise ahead of the September 1 deadline. United's pursuit of the Dutch forward came to an abrupt end due to the hefty fee that Ajax were demanding over Antony.

United ended up spending £225million on six new signings during the window, as the budget failed to stretch far enough to sanction a move for Gakpo as well. United and Ten Hag continue to be linked with a move for the 23-year-old, yet the Dutchman has been warned by the club's football director John Murtough that a January transfer will be challenging to complete.

Although Antony has been superb since his arrival at Old Trafford, there is no denying that the club need to reinforce their attacking options further still. Gakpo would certainly be on their shortlist, and the winger has now spoken out once again over his future, as he revealed that United were among the clubs that he would love to move sign for.

Speaking to Dutch outlet NOS (via GOAL ), he said: "I think at the end of this season I will be ready to take that step. I feel like I was already that way at the start of this season, but after this season I'm even more ready to take that next step.

"[On which clubs he would like to join] Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool. It would be an honour to play there, but I also have to see what kind of team would suit me best."
