Agents repping coaches in the New York/New Jersey Metropolitan Area might offer their clients some sage advice: Rent, don’t buy. A look at how short the shelf life has been for head coaches in and around the Big Apple.
New York Giants

Big Blue dipped into the assistant coach pool and hired Joe Judge as its head coach for 2020. Prior to this surprise move, Pat Shurmur lasted two seasons going 9-23. Before that, it was Ben McAdoo, who went 2-10 in 2017 and was canned despite going 11-5 in his first season.
New York Jets

The Jets concluded their first season with Adam Gase as head coach, another sub-.500 year. The job has had stunning stability for the Big Apple. Todd Bowles (four years), Rex Ryan (six), Eric Mangini (three), Herman Edwards (five) all had runs. Before that it was a year of Al Groh and, um, about a day of Bill Belichick.
New York Yankees

Aaron Boone is entering his third season as manager of the Bronx Bombers.
New York Mets

The carousel spins wildly at Citi Field. Carlos Beltran will be starting his first season as Mets manager. He replaces Mickey Callaway, who lasted two seasons.
New York Knicks

The Knicks currently have Mike Miller running the show in an interim role as David Fizdale was fired after a brutal start to the 2019-20 season. Since Jeff Van Gundy exited after 2001, 12 people have been either the interim or actual head coach. Stunning.
Brooklyn Nets

Lawrence Frank exited after an 0-16 start in 2009. Since, the Nets have moved from New Jersey to Brooklyn, and seen nine interim or permanent head coaches. Kenny Atkinson rules the Big Apple, having been a head coach/manager since 2016.
New York Rangers

David Quinn is in his second season as head coach of the Rangers. Since 2000, they have had eight people in charge of the team, including exec Glen Sather who was behind the bench for 90 games in 2003-04.
New Jersey Devils

The Devils are on a new head coach after dismissing John Hynes in December. You win a prize if you can tell anyone Alain Nasreddine is the current man behind the bench at Prudential Center. Since Robbie Ftorek exited in 2000, 13 people have held the title of head coach in some capacity.
New York Islanders

Barry Trotz came to Long Island after winning the Stanley Cup in Washington. Al Arbour had two runs, coaching 1,500 games — yes, there was a one-game stint in 2007. Overall, Trotz is the 13th head coach for the Islanders since Arbour left in 1994.
