The Irish Mirror reported that the eight-year-old Ukrainian refugee is in Crumlin Children’s Hospital, after being transferred from Limerick University Hospital where her mother remains.

Both are said to be critically ill. The child, who had suffered multiple injuries to her neck and body, was found on Tuesday morning at a house near Clarecastle, Co Clare.

Her 46-year-old mum was also discovered unconscious at the scene. Gardai are not looking for anyone else in relation to the case. A source said: “It’s wait and see but the fact her major organs weren’t hit has given her a fighting chance.”

It is understood the results of a toxicology report are being awaited. The child and mother were staying at a property, understood to be a former B&B, which is being used to host Ukrainians who have fled the war.

After the mum and child were brought to hospital, the remaining occupants, who will be interviewed by detectives, were transferred to alternative accommodation in Ennis.
