Co Antrim Shield: Leroy Millar knows importance of final win

Leroy Millar knows all about suffering cup final heartache.

In his last game for Ballymena United Millar had the Irish Cup ripped out of his hands in the cruellest of ways as Johnny McMurray's last-gasp goal in extra time won the cup for Crusaders.

It was a tough one for the midfielder to take particularly as it brought his career with his hometown club to an end.

Fast-forward six months into his career with his new club Larne and he has the chance to exorcise some of those demons against Linfield in Tuesday night's County Antrim Shield final.

"It's always nice when you get to finals but you want to win them," said.

"We've done the hard work to get there so we have to do our best to win it.

"We are under no illusions how tough it is going to be but we'll prepare the best we can."

The Invermen are going for their third Shield victory in a row following their wins over Glentoran and the Blues in the last two seasons.

They have been impressive so far this season and Millar will be hoping another shield win can propel them to more glory.

"It's the tightest league I've seen in a long time," he said.

"Any of the top six can put a run of five or six games together.

"You look at Coleraine in recent weeks they are right back in it.

"It's an old cliche but you just have to take one game at a time and chalk them off."
