CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to launch Andhra Pradesh's first waste-to-energy plant today

GUNTUR: The stage is set for the launch of AP's first waste-to-energy (WTE) plant in Guntur. Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will dedicate the 350 crore project to the state on Tuesday.

Jindal group owned JITF Urban Infrastructure Limited has completed the 15 MW power plant at Naidupalem village on the outskirts of Guntur city. The plant will make use of garbage supplied by Guntur and Vijayawada municipal corporations and eight other municipal towns in Guntur district, including Mangalagiri, Tadepalle, Sattenapalle, Ponnur and Tenali. The 10 urban local bodies will supply around 1200 metric tonnes of garbage per day to the power plant.

This project is expected to provide relief to civic bodies in disposal of garbage as maintaining dumping yards had become a headache for them. They will now dump the dry waste in the power plant. The power supply lines have been synchronised with AP Transco.

Commissioner and director of municipal administration (CDMA) Pravin Kumar inspected arrangements for the chief minister's visit here on Friday. He directed GMC commissioner Chekuri Keerthi and other officials to take measures to keep the area clean. He said the chief minister would inspect the plant after unveiling the pylon. He said the chief minister would also inspect the model Haritha Vanam and avenue plantation in the plant area. He asked the plant management to be ready with all arrangements.

A separate dais is being set up as the chief minister is likely to address sanitation workers at the plant. He will distribute tricycles for garbage collection in Guntur city. The CDMA directed officials to immediately spare space for setting up stalls in the plant during the CM's visit.

Palnadu district collector Lotheti Sivasankar, SP Ravisankar Reddy, additional SP Garikapati Bindu Madhav, Guntur RDO Prabhkara Reddy, Narasaraopet RDO Seshi Reddy, Jindal Projects president Chary, AGM Ramakrishna and other senior officials were present.
