Club Brugge explain why they can defeat Manchester United in the Europa League

Club Brugge general manager Vincent Mannaert believes his side have every chance of causing an upset when they face Manchester United in the Europa League next year.

United have been drawn to face the Belgian champions in the last 16 of the Europa League and have been made favourites for the fixtures which take place in February.

Brugge find themselves in the Europa League after finishing third in a Champions League group which pitted them against Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Galatasary.

Although the Belgian side are yet to win a group game in Europe this season Mannaert insists his side have what it takes to defeat United over two-legs when they meet.

Brugge acknowledge the tie will be incredibly difficult, but they believe United's inconsistency on the pitch could provide the platform for an upset.

“This is not the biggest Manchester United”, Mannaert said on De Tribune.

“They are once again starting to give a chance to their philosophy of playing young talents and a young footballer like Marcus Rashford is already a world-class performer.

“But you still do not see consistent performances and that may be an opportunity for us.

“We played in Madrid and Paris this season.

“It is a step forward we have taken this season and it is on which we can build against Manchester United.”
