LUCKNOW: Overcast sky and moderate rainss on Monday made the weather pleasant in the city after a gap of nearly a month long hot and sultry conditions. More rains is likely till Wednesday.
Several spells of showers were witnessed from midnight. There were reports of waterlogging from some parts of the city. However, people came out in large numbers to enjoy the rains.
Total 16mm rainfall was recorded at the Met observatory in Amausi till the evening. Relative humidity remained high – between 80-98% – but did not cause much discomfort as the mercury levels that were hovering 4-5 degrees above normal came down to normal standards. While the maximum temperature was 32.8 degrees Celsius, minimum temperature was 26.1 degrees Celsius. “The monsoon trough line – a series of cyclonic circulation – passing through north UP is responsible for change in the weather condition. The state and the city are also getting constant moisture feed from the Bay of Bengal, which is also helping in precipitation. Under the influence of these two factors, rain and thundershowers will occur in many parts of the state till Wednesday-Thursday. Rainfall can be heavy in northeast and northwest UP as well as in some districts in the west,” said state Met director JP Gupta.
Monsoon arrived in UP and Lucknow before the normal date but lost steam thereafter. Barring a few districts, most parts of the state were reeling under deficient rains over the past month. The rains deficit this monsoon (June 1-July
19) in the state is 24% below normal so far. Similarly, Lucknow’s rains deficit at present is 29%. The situation is likely to improve in the coming days due to the revival of monsoon.
