Clontarf's new outdoor swimming pool opens to the public but there's a fee

Clontarf’s outdoor pool has been opened to the public on a trial basis for the month of August, according to their Facebook account.

The seawater pool, which juts out onto the promenade in Clontarf, is around 40 metres wide and offers swimmers a fabulous view of the sea. Clontarf Baths confirmed that the pool was open to members of the public in a post on Facebook.

“We are delighted that we can now invite the public to use the pool during the month of August. Make sure you book on line in advance! Look forward to seeing you soon,” the post read.

The pool is offering people two daily sessions from Monday to Friday at a cost of €10 per person. The fee is the same for both adults and children.

A Twitter user expressed disappointment with the fee, suggesting that it was a “steep” price per person for a limited session.

Clontarf Baths splashed out on a €2.4 million revamp in 2018. The club boasts several amenities, including its own restaurant. However, the five-lane pool could still only be accessed by members of private clubs despite its idyllic location up until the recent announcement.

Operators confirmed at the time that public use could only be approved if Dublin City Council was willing to provide them with funding to facilitate a public opening.

Visitors to the outdoor pool have praised the move online and have been availing of the amenity in the current heat. There appears to be no official plans to extend the public usage beyond August.

Each session is two hours in duration and bookings can be completed through a PayPal link.
