April 12--The Clippers filled their remaining roster spot Saturday by signing guard Lester Hudson to a multiyear deal. Terms of the deal were not released in the team's announcement.
"I like his toughness," Coach Doc Rivers said of Hudson before the Clippers played the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday. "I just liked his defense. He has a chance to be a really good defensive player in our program."
The Clippers signed the 6-foot-3 guard to a 10-day contract on March 29. He has averaged 2.3 points and 1.7 steals in 11.3 minutes a game for them.
They also considered signing Nate Robinson, who signed two 10-day contracts with the Clippers, the last one expiring March 27. Robinson averaged 5.1 points, 2.2 assists and 14 minutes over nine games for the Clippers, but he was nursing a knee injury.
"He wasn't unhealthy," Rivers said of Robinson. "But he wasn't 100% either."
Before joining the Clippers, Hudson, 30, was a two-time MVP (2014, 2015) in the Chinese Basketball Assn., where he played for Liaoning, averaging 31.2 points, 7.7 rebounds and 6.9 assists in 50 games this season.
"I just think when you add guys, it helps," Rivers said. "Lester is not young, but he's a good solid guy to have in your locker room, so I like that."
Hudson originally was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 2009, a second-round pick, 58th overall. He has career averages of 4.7 points, 1.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 10.4 minutes a game over three NBA seasons with Boston, Memphis, Washington, Cleveland and Los Angeles.
