A cliff top farm property in Southerndown is being turned into a new cafe and self-catering venue.
The vacant Barn at West Farm, located between Dunraven Bay and Ogmore-by-Sea, has been acquired by an undisclosed local developer having been on the market for more than £1.2m.
A new business, West Farm Southerndown Coastal Retreat, will provide an all year round cafe and three self-catering properties, including a renovated farmhouse and apartments
The cafe and accommodation are set to open in June in line with Welsh Government COovid guidelines at the time.
Project director of West Farm Southerndown Retreat, Katie Phillips said: “Everyone in the area knows and loves the property, so we wanted to create something that Southerndown could be proud of and rely on, including a quality local café where everyone feels welcome from cyclists and dog walkers, to local families and tourists visiting our beautiful coast.
“As restrictions lift in Wales, we also hope to hold vents at West Farm, including live music, art exhibitions and family events.
“We are proud to be breathing new life into this local treasure and supporting the region’s economy wherever we can. The construction team on site are all local builders, trades and craftspeople, and we are already talking to local food and drink suppliers to ensure the café offers a true taste of the area using the best Welsh ingredients."
The venue will also include an event and wedding space. However, it is not anticipating hosting weddings until next year.
