Cleland football fan banned from grounds after invading pitch during derby

A fan who ran on to the pitch during a Hamilton v Motherwell derby has been banned from football grounds for a year.

Ryan Burke, 31, of Wishaw Low Road, Cleland, was also fined £300 at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

Initially he denied causing a breach of the peace at New Douglas Park in December 2018.

Burke claimed he was celebrating a goal in Motherwell’s 2-1 victory and “got crushed and ended up on the park”.

He was due to stand trial, but ultimately admitted the charge which stated that he behaved in a disorderly manner, entered the field of play and gestured towards opposing fans.

Sheriff Daniel Kelly allowed Burke to pay the fine at £100 per month.
