Cleaning expert shows how he deals with dishes that look 'ruined'

A cleaning expert has shared how he deals with pots and pans that appear to be "ruined" by a build-up of scorched food.

The expert, named Brandon, runs a TikTok account called @cleanthatup where he shares cleaning tips and tricks. The third generation janitor and self-described clean freak offers up cleaning hacks to his huge audience of 1.5 million TikTok users.

In a recent video, titled "Saving my grandmother’s favourite pot", Brandon shows his followers how to deal with the stubborn build-up that is left at the bottom of the pot when food gets burned. The clip received 6.1 million views and more than 950,000 likes.

The cleaning expert explained: "this is my grandma 's favourite pot," and showed off the pot which had a huge amount of crusty-build up on the copper flooring from years of use.

He continued: "She told me 'Brandon I ruined it, it's done for good.' So let's surprise her and clean it up."

Brandon then walked viewers through his simple cleaning process which involves the following steps:

  • Simmer the pot in water, dish soap and vinegar to break down the build-up for 30 minutes
  • Gently scrape the build-up off of the pot with a fresh scrubbing brush
  • Thoroughly scrape the stubborn build-up using a steel scourer and degreaser
  • If there is any dirt left over, scrub it off with the help of scouring powder
  • Rinse the pot to wash away all of the loose build-up

After the pot was cleaned the man showed off his handiwork to his grateful gran, who said: Wow! And I was gonna throw that away!"

She then says that it has been a long time since the pan has looked so good and reveals that it is a whopping seven decades old. It wasn't just Brandon's grandmother who was impressed with the sparkling pot, thousands took to the comments to complement his methods.

One TikTok user wrote "Those copper bottom pots are the best! My parents have some that if they ever get rid of I’m stealing," While another pointed out that the now spotless pan was much older than they were.

A third user commented: "See? You preserved family history!"
