Claudine Keane says she's proud she never had a nanny for her sons

Claudine Keane has told how she’s proud she’s never had a nanny and laughs at suggestions she and her soccer hero Robbie Keane are the Posh and Becks of Ireland.

The mum to Robert, 11, and four-year-old Hudson told the Irish Mirror about her approach to parenting.

She said: “I’ve never ever had a nanny, sometimes it’s not the best thing in the world when you’re travelling a lot and on flights by yourself with your kids.

“Boys are boisterous, I made a decision early on if I could do it, I would and so I’ve always minded my boys myself.”

The glamorous pair have been long called Ireland’s answer to Posh and Becks.

Claudine, 36, quipped: “I find it very funny, I take it tongue and cheek.”

With a finance degree under her belt Claudine has never felt she was underestimated.

She said: “I’ve never felt that, I feel when you meet people they get a good sense of you, anyone who knows you. We’re lucky in Ireland, I never got any of that, everyone knew I was in university, thank God.”

Commenting on lockdown, Claudine said: “It was a hard time for every family and we all had our obstacles to get through.

“We had been through a lot, we had our brushes with Covid, we were just so happy to be alive, our parents there too, it’s all that matters – health – and we’re happy to be alive.”

Getting through lockdown the first time around was helped by the odd glass of vino.

She said: “I tried to be as healthy as I can, but of course there were treats, what else could we do, we all did our online quiz with our friends and the glass of wine, anything to get through a lockdown.”

Former Ireland international Robbie turned 40 during lockdown so big celebrations had to be postponed.

Claudine added: “Of all the years, we’d been planning a little party with our friends from America and the UK travelling and it became clear in March it wasn’t going to happen.

“We will definitely celebrate again but what was lovely and more important for us was getting to celebrate with each other, the kids and our parents."
