Clara's: New French and Italian bistro opens in Shoreditch with ex-Artusi chef

Let’s be Clara: this deli and bistro opened quietly last month - (Clara's)

A new neighborhood deli, café and bistro has quietly opened in Shoreditch, serving sandwiches by day and French and Italian-inspired dishes in the evening.

Clara’s launched opposite Shoreditch High Street last month and comes from the team behind the Farrier pub in Camden, well-loved before its closure in 2024.

In charge of the kitchen is the chef Elie Fourcroy, who cooked at Peckham restaurant Artusi for many years and was part of the team that won it a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

The venue opens each day at 8am, operating as a coffee shop, café and deli in the evening. Charcuterie and cheeses, breads from Dusty Knuckle Bakery and other items are on sale, while focaccia sandwiches are available each day from midday.

On the counter are pistachio and mortadella buns, house-made cakes and croissants, while butchery cuts, tinned fish, and fruit and veg from the acclaimed Flourish produce are on sale.

Saturday mornings are a good time to visit in particular: it’s then that the team makes its own fresh mozzarella, which is then served still warm from the stretching bath.

From 7pm, Clara’s becomes a Mediterranean bistro and wine bar. Expect oysters, rillettes, bruschetta con tomate, and seasonal salad niçoise alongside manchego fritti, hake brandade, octopus in cuttlefish ink, and veal goulash, among other dishes.

As for the wine list, there’s a focus on European producers, with suppliers such as Les Caves de Pyrene, Tutto, Ancestral, and Nabeeth Wines, which works with winemakers in Palestine. In charge of the floor is general manager Rochelle Hutchinson, ex-River Café.

Look out for serious Clara’s interest in the new year.
