Claire Foy to make surprise comeback in The Crown season 4

An old face is returning to the popular royal drama.

Golden Globe winner Claire Foy will reprise her role as a young Queen Elizabeth II in a flashback scene for The Crown season 4.

Foy was spotted on set (via Daily Mail ) in the dress of Elizabeth performing the speech that The Queen made on her 21st birthday where she dedicates her life in service to the country.

In the original speech, the Queen said: "I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong."

The role of The Queen was taken over by Oscar winner Olivia Colman for the third season, a role which she will reprise for the fourth.

Colman will be replaced by another actress for the fifth and sixth runs,

The fourth run will see Olivia Colman's Queen deal with more family dramas as Prince Charles (Josh O'Connor) marries Lady Diana Spencer (newcomer Emma Corrin) despite still being in love with Camilla Parker Bowles (Emerald Fennell), as well as facing a new prime minister in the form of the divisive Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson).

It remains to be seen which episode of the fourth season that Foy will reappear in.

The Crown season 4 is released on Netflix in late 2020.
