City of Glasgow College confirms dates for planned reopening

The City of Glasgow College has confirmed the dates it plans to reopen for the new 2020/2021 academic term.

The new term will officially start on Monday, August 31 with the majority of classes getting underway on Monday, September 14.

Paul Little, Principal and Chief Executive, City of Glasgow College, said:“The health and safety of our college community of students, staff and service providers remains our top priority.

"Our planned measures will involve strict social distancing measures being in place as well as a new blended learning approach, involving in-college as well as online interaction for lecturers and students.

“We are following guidance set out in the Scottish Government’s route map while adhering to our commitment to deliver the best student experience possible in a safe and supported way.”

Students will be invited to attend a series of induction events, online and on-campus, including meeting lecturer/s and class members; getting to know Glasgow sessions; who to speak to for student support and advice on funding; how to get tech ready; and virtual campus tours.

Dr Claire Carney, Vice Principal for Student Experience at City of Glasgow College, said: “We are acutely aware that social interactivity is an important part of our students’ positive college experience.

"Where we can accommodate safe numbers and adhere to social distancing guidance, we plan to open our campuses for a range of student activities such as practical classes, guidance sessions and peer-support activities.

“Lecturing staff are actively planning for next session and the delayed term start will allow all necessary curricular planning, social distancing and safety measures to be in place and rigorously checked. We look forward to welcoming all students whether online or on campus to enjoy and participate in the wonderful range of City of Glasgow College course offerings.”
