Liverpool to fall silent to commemorate Hillsborough anniversary

Liverpool will hold a minute silence to mark the 33rd anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster today. Flags will be flown at half-mast from Liverpool council buildings including St George's Hall, Cunard Building and Liverpool Town Hall.

Bells will toll 97 times at 3.06pm from the Town Hall to remember those who lost their lives as a result of the tragedy on Saturday, April 15 1989. The city will then be asked to fall silent and pause for one minute at 3.06pm - the time the match was officially stopped - to reflect on the events and those affected by them.

Woman, 70, arrested after Mini ploughs into grave stones at Landican Cemetery

A woman was arrested after a Mini ploughed into grave stones at a Wirral cemetery.

Emergency services were called to Landican Cemetery, on Arrowe Park Road, shortly before 9pm on Thursday. When they arrived at the scene, a Mini Country Man was reportedly found flipped onto its roof.

Paramedics and fire crews managed to free the driver from the car as police cordoned off the cemetery. It is not clear if the female driver was injured in the crash.

Man on roof of St Anne Street police station in standoff with officers

A man on the roof of a police station was in a stand off with officers trying to get him to come down.

Emergency services were called to St Anne Street, at around 7.30pm on Thursday, when police reported the man was on the roof. Paramedics and fire crews were at the scene where officers attempted to speak to the man.

It is not clear what sparked the incident, but the man could be seen wearing a black short sleeved T-shirt and black jeans, as he paced on top of the station's custody suite.
