City centre sports bar applies to make major changes

A popular sports bar on James Street has applied to make changes to the premises by adding an extension. Riley's Sports Bar is a busy bar in the city centre thanks to their pool tables where customers can play snooker.

The team at the bar has put in an application for an extension of the bar into the former cafe area to the front of the site. They are also hoping to extend the bar serving area and move the accessible toilets.

The bar is also planning a full internal refurbishment along with improved outside spaces. They currently have five snooker tables, eleven English pool tables and thirteen American pool tables. There are also big screens to watch sports and a darts zone.

The future of the establishment was left uncertain after the chain went into administration in July 2020. Forty staff across many of the locations were made redundant following the announcement. There are thirteen other Riley's Sports Bars across the UK including venues in Solihull, Swansea and Chester.
