Christmas fairs going ahead in Beeston and Stapleford with Covid-secure measures

Town centres in part of Nottinghamshire will now start to be decorated with festive lights as Christmas fairs go ahead in the coming December weeks.

Christmas fairs will be held in Beeston Square on December 12 and Walter Parker VC Square in Stapleford on December 19 and shoppers will be able to browse a selection of stalls selling jewellery, leather ware, ornamental models, gifts for pets and craft items.

All of Nottinghamshire is set to fall into tier 3 Covid restrictions as of Wednesday December 2.

And Nottingham City Council has defended the decision to open its Christmas Market in Old Market Square from December 5.

Councillor Milan Radulovic, Broxtowe Borough Council, leader said: “Town centres are the community heartbeat of any place and having had a challenging year this year, local businesses need our help.

"Being able to pop out for a few things is something that gives us great joy and it would be a terrible thing to lose. These Christmas fairs will be a welcome sight this December, nestled in the heart of Beeston and Stapleford.

"Come and see what they have to offer and the businesses around them too. We have great shops and stalls in Broxtowe and with the Christmas season upon us, it is also a great opportunity to get into the festive spirit and buy some great items. Think local; shop local.”

At the Christmas fairs, there will be a one-way system in place, hand sanitising stations, "good spacing" between stalls and safety measures signage, the borough council added.

The local authority stressed the market is a "Covid-secure" outdoor shopping environment but would like to remind all residents and visitors to stick with the rule of hands, face, space, at all times.

"Wash your hands and use hand sanitiser, wear a face covering and keep a 2m distance, or 1m distance with face covering if 2m is not possible. If you have symptoms, stay home and dial 111 to book a test," a council spokesperson added.
