Christina Applegate Opens Up About Her MS Relapse Struggles

Applegate detailed intense leg pain and difficulty walking during an MS relapse.

Christina Applegate recently shared the challenging moments of her multiple sclerosis (MS) journey on her podcast. The actress opened up about experiencing intense leg pain during a relapse, revealing that she struggled to walk or even shower. She described feeling extreme fatigue and pain in her legs, making it difficult to move or find relief. Applegate expressed frustration at the lack of circulation in her legs and the constant tingling sensation she felt.

At the time of the podcast recording, Applegate mentioned her inability to walk to the bathroom without feeling like she might fall. She also humorously mentioned resorting to using flushable wipes for hygiene purposes due to her inability to stand in the shower. The actress candidly shared that she hadn't been able to shower for weeks and joked about her daughter's reaction to her situation.

In addition to her leg issues, Applegate revealed that her symptoms had started affecting her eyes, causing sleep disturbances. She expressed concern about her eye shifting when she tried to sleep and mentioned not receiving a response from her doctor regarding her symptoms.

A representative for Applegate clarified that the podcast episode was recorded months ago and that the actress had passed the relapse phase by then. However, it remains unclear whether the recording took place before or after she was seen using a cane at the 2024 Emmys in January.

Since disclosing her MS diagnosis in 2021, Applegate has been transparent about her struggles with the disease, calling it the worst experience of her life. She shared details about the lesions on her brain, particularly one behind her right eye that causes significant discomfort. Applegate also mentioned experiencing unusual sensations in her hand and occasional seizure-like feelings in her brain.

Earlier in the same month, Applegate admitted to dealing with incontinence due to the autoimmune disease, highlighting the various challenges individuals with MS may face. Despite the difficulties, Applegate's openness about her journey has helped raise awareness about MS and shed light on the realities of living with the condition.
