Christian Eriksen's time at Tottenham finally came to an end on Tuesday as he completed his move to Inter Milan.
Looking on course to leave ahead of the 2019/20 season as he entered the final 12 months of his contract, the Dane instead remained at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with no clubs making a move for him.
Given the real possibility of losing him on a free transfer this summer, Spurs and Inter finally came to an agreement that saw the Serie A giants pay just shy of £17million for his services.
Although it has been rumoured for weeks that he would be on the move, the 27-year-old never had the chance to say a proper goodbye to supporters after almost seven years in the capital.
Well, following his move to the San Siro, Eriksen has now sent a heartfelt message to Tottenham fans on his Twitter account as he explained why he decided to move on.
"Dear Tottenham fans, I don't know where to start," he wrote. "I didn't have time to say goodbye to everyone, even though I felt like I played a lot of games where everyone said and thought I would be gone the next day.
"I have so many unbelievable memories over the last 6.5 years I was at Spurs.
"I enjoyed being at the training ground every day and playing games in the stadium so much, but sometimes you just want to try something new.
"So, Spurs fans it has been a pleasure to play at your club and hopefully we meet again in the future!
"All the best, Christian."
Following Eriksen's move to Italy, the club confirmed the permanent signing of Giovani Lo Celso after impressing in his initial loan move from Real Betis.
Spurs have also further strengthened following Eriksen's exit after Dutch international Steven Bergwijn joined from PSV.
