Chrishell Stause Just Dragged Gwen Stefani Over That Anti-Abortion Prayer App Sponcon

Chrishell Stause has officially entered the chat on Gwen Stefani’s latest bit of sponcon, and she kind of ate the No Doubt singer up IMO.

Gwen recently shared a paid Instagram Reel promoting Christian prayer app Hallow, where she described it as a way to use “audio-guided meditation sessions” to grow in faith and “find peace in God”.

In the clip, she encouraged fans to join the app’s Advent Challenge, saying it’s important to spend time in prayer during the holiday season and to “let Jesus bring us his peace”, before asking people to download Hallow and pray every day leading up to Christmas.

In her caption, she called Advent a time to “slow down”, reflect, pray and “make room in your heart for Jesus”, and invited followers to join her for the “Pray25: Be Still” challenge.

The response was mixed, and that’s honestly putting it politely.

For one, Kris Jenner liked the post, but plenty of fans in the comments were unimpressed, with one writing, “I love you, Gwen but unfortunately I ain’t no Hallow app girl 😬”, and another saying it was “very disappointing” given how many of Gwen’s fans are from the LGBTQ+ community.

Others pointed out that prayer doesn’t need a subscription fee, calling the whole thing out for feeling off.

Selling Sunset star Chrishell decided to weigh in via the comments of a Reel by A Bit Fruity podcast host Matt Bernstein, who broke down why the partnership is so contentious. Under his video, she wrote, “Gwen-DON’T SPEAK. Please take your own advice on this one🫠”, flipping Gwen’s own ‘90s lyric into a clean, cutting line.

Bernstein pointed out that Hallow runs on a subscription model and features explicitly anti-abortion prayers, including for women considering abortion after rape or incest, and highlighted that early funding came from conservative figures like US Vice President JD Vance and venture capitalist Peter Thiel, who has previously slammed diversity initiatives and even argued that women’s suffrage was bad for democracy.

Put together, it explains why this partnership is downright diabolical.

Gwen’s public image over the last few years has shifted more and more into openly religious and conservative-adjacent territory, from her country pivot to branding that leans heavily on faith and family. Pairing that with a pay-to-pray app tied to anti-abortion content and powerful right-wing backers feels like a major break from the outsider, alt-rock frontwoman a lot of fans grew up with.

But with former controversies including cultural appropriation and insensitivities, should we really be that surprised?
