Chris Waddle hits out at NUFC's Joelinton and Muto for first half performance against Rochdale

Newcastle United legend Chris Waddle has criticised the club's forward line for their performance in the first-half of the FA Cup tie against Rochdale.

The Magpies went into the break 1-0 to the good thanks to Miguel Almiron who fired home after controlling Christian Atsu's pull-back after 17 minutes.

But Steve Bruce's side should have taken a much more comfortable lead into half-time with Yoshinori Muto and Joelinton guilty of missing a trio of chances.

Newcastle's number 13 fired straight at goalkeeper David Sanchez from close range, while Joelinton fired wide and forced Sanchez into a save with the last chance of the half.

For Waddle, he believes United haven't got enough up front.

He said on 5Live: "If Newcastle had a little bit more quality in the final third this game would have been over by now.

"Steve Bruce will be a little bit disappointed it's only one goal but Brian Barry-Murphy will be delighted."
