Coldplay star Chris Martin and actress girlfriend Dakota Johnson called it a day because she wasn't ready to have children, it has been claimed.
The rocker, 42, has two children with his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow.
He is dad to daughter Apple, 14, and son Moses, 12 - but was said to be desperate for a third child.
The pair dated for 20 months and the break-up comes just months after they were reportedly talking about marriage.
The Fifty Shades of Grey star, 29, wasn't keen to start a family, the Sunday Express reports.
A close friend of the former couple said: "Chris made it clear that he wants more kids as soon as possible but Dakota's career has really taken off and that's the last thing she wanted to think about right away.
"It got to the point, last month, where a light seemed to flick on in both their heads and they realised they were pulling in completely opposite directions - so they decided to call it a day."
There was talk of marriage late last year but the couple have now decided to call it quits.
"There was talk of engagement but now he says they have gone their separate ways, which has come as a real surprise to everyone," a source told The Sun .
Dakota is said to have enjoyed a good relationship with Chris' ex-wife Gwyneth.
She even went along with Chris when he joined Gwyneth on her honeymoon in the Maldives with new husband Brad Falchuck.
"Their families hang out often, and they are all very comfortable with each other," a source told E!
"Dakota has a great relationship with his kids and with Gwyneth."
