Chris Doidge completes move to Hibs from Forest Green Rovers for undisclosed fee

Hibs have completed the signing of Forest Green Rovers striker Chris Doidge for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old Welshman has penned a three-year deal at Easter Road and becomes Paul Heckingbottom’s fourth summer addition.

Doidge spent part of last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers and was due to sign permanently for the Lancashire club.

However, financial troubles meant they were hit with a transfer embargo and he returned to Forest Green, who missed on a reported transfer fee of over £1million.

Up front is where numbers are needed at Hibs. Florian Kamberi remains as the senior striker after Marc McNulty’s loan from Reading ended.

The Edinburgh club are still keen to try and bring McNulty back, but it’s unlikely to be a swift process and other targets have to be looked at.

Oli Shaw will likely continue as an option off the bench, especially if the suggested fee for Doidge is indeed close to a quarter of a million pounds.

In his first interview as a Hibs player, Doidge admitted he's looking forward to working under his new boss.

He said: "I felt like I knew exactly what he wanted from me within 10 seconds. He’s very clear in his instructions and I think it will really suit my game.

“I’m looking forward to working under him.

“I like getting after the ball with a high work-rate, making a nuisance of myself for defenders and playing off the shoulder. I like to attack crosses – just an all-round number nine, really.”

Defender and compatriot Tom James should join Doige in signing imminently, with the paperwork on his move from Yeovil Town due to be completed tomorrow.
