Chris Aitken and Rangers legend Ian Durrant to be handed reins at East Kilbride

Chris Aitken expects to be announced as East Kilbride's new manager after delivering the club's first win of the Lowland League season.

The 40-year-old and Ian Durrant took charge of Kilby's 1-0 win over Bo'ness United at K-Park this afternoon, following the resignation of Chris' brother Stevie Aitken on Tuesday.

Pre-season title favourites Kilby had been on an eight-game winless streak amidst the club's worst-ever start to a campaign.

But it looks like former No. 2 Chris Aitken and Durrant will be the ones to take the club forward, with a third member of the backroom team expected to come in shortly.

Following their win over Bo'ness, Aitken told Lanarkshire Live Sport : "Over the weekend we'll have more conversations with the board, but the plan is to stay on and that's what we are working towards.

"It's something I'm really looking forward to and I'm excited about it.

"I've been here 16 months now, so I know what's at stake at this club.

"I'm not going to sit here and pretend.

"We want to win this league, so it's important Ian and I and whoever else I bring in - because I will be bringing someone else in - go again and we get our players back.

"Once we get players back there's no doubt we will get up that league.

"Hopefully it will all be confirmed in the next couple of days.

"My work has already started here.

"I had the players for Wednesday's game, I had a good chat with them on Thursday and now we've got the win today.

"I'm hopeful it will be done and dusted soon, we've got a good result and I can go and enjoy my beer now."

While Stevie Aitken may have left K-Park, Chris admitted he will still lean on his elder sibling for support in the role.

He added: "We are best pals outside of football and hang about together, I speak to him every day, so of course I had a chat with him before the game.

"His decision was a total football decision and I think we need to respect that.

"He's taken the option to step aside and we need to move forward.

"But I'll be touching in to every bit of experience he's got going forward and hopefully we get more wins on the board."
