China Warns Students About Risk of Racism in Australia

picture

What’s new: China’s Ministry of Education warned (link in Chinese) Tuesday that students planning to begin their studies in Australia or to return to the country’s schools should carefully assess the risks, as a slew of “discriminative incidents” against people of Asian descent have occurred there amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

What’s the background: Major colleges and universities in Australia are set to open around July. As of Tuesday local time, Australia had recorded more than 7,200 Covid-19 cases, including 102 deaths, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
