China set to give all humanoid robots digital identity numbers

  • China is introducing unique digital identity numbers for all its humanoid robots to track them throughout their lifecycle, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
  • The programme aims to monitor humanoid robot products for safety risks from production to recycling, supporting the rapid growth of the sector.
  • These unique humanoid IDs comprise four parts, including codes for cross-border shipments, manufacturer identification, robot type, and individual serial numbers.
  • Currently, over 100 Chinese manufacturers and 28,000 humanoid robots across 200 models have already been assigned a digital ID.
  • While primarily used in universities, research labs, and manufacturing, China is preparing for large-scale commercial applications such as eldercare and domestic cleaning, with companies like GigaAI developing household task robots.
