- Xu was sentenced to death in 2024 after being convicted of Lin's murder, with his execution confirmed by Yoozoo on 21 May.
- Lin Qi's company, Yoozoo, owned the film rights to The Three-Body Problem science-fiction trilogy, and Lin was an executive producer on its Netflix adaptation.
- The conflict stemmed from Lin appointing Xu to lead the Three-Body Universe in 2018 but later reassigning key business operations to other executives, despite Xu's involvement in securing the Netflix deal.
