The incident happened at around 6pm on Wednesday on Walkinstown Avenue in Dublin and resulted in the road being shut.

The Irish Mirror understands the girl is 12 years old.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed to this publication that there was a serious road traffic collision and a female youth who was travelling on a scooter was taken to hospital.

The youth is understood to be alive and no other injuries arose from the crash.

A spokesperson for the gardai told the Irish Mirror: "Gardai are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision on Walkinstown Avenue, Dublin 12 which occurred this evening, Wednesday December 1, 2021, shortly after 6pm.

"A female youth was taken to hospital following the incident. The scene is currently preserved while Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination.
