Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins leaves during opening drive with hamstring injury

The Kansas City Chiefs had Sammy Watkins give it a go during this game but he didn’t last very long.

Watkins came into the game dinged up suffering a shoulder injury in Week 4 and injuring his hamstring during Friday’s practice. That led the Chiefs to give Watkins the questionable designation heading into the game. Ahead of the game he worked with the training staff and appeared to be good to go, but he left the field during the first offensive drive of the game.

According to ESPN’s Adam Teicher, Watkins spoke with trainers on the sideline before heading back to the locker room. That’s typically an ominous sign and for a player that was injured heading into the game, it almost certainly means reinjury.

Shortly after Watkins went to the locker room the Chiefs announced him as questionable to return with a hamstring injury.

Obviously, this is not the ideal situation for the Chiefs as they’re already down Tyreek Hill. So far it’s been Byron Pringle who has picked up the slack in Watkins’ place.

Update:

Watkins has officially been ruled out for the rest of the game.
