Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney says Eric Bieniemy made a difference in his game

Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was introduced as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders on Thursday.

Some players from Kansas City have since weighed in on what Bieniemy meant to them during the course of their careers, including Patrick Mahomes. Late on Thursday night, Kadarius Toney tweeted about Bieniemy. Toney only spent around four months under Bieniemy’s tutelage, yet even he felt the impact that the former Chiefs offensive coordinator left on his game.

“(I) haven’t even been in KC that long and (I) feel the difference in my game impacted by (Eric Bieniemy),” Toney wrote on Twitter. “I wish (him nothing) but success.”

Toney appeared in 10 total games with Kansas City this season following his trade from New York in late October. He recorded 14 catches for 171 yards and two touchdowns along with five carries for 59 yards and a score during the regular season. In the postseason, Toney added seven receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown along with one carry for 14 yards.

It’s hard to say exactly what part of Toney’s game was impacted by Bieniemy. Still, it’s interesting to hear a player who is new to Bieniemy’s coaching and style say something like this. It certainly goes against what LeSean McCoy had to say and it’s coming from a player that has been with the Chiefs for a similar amount of time as McCoy spent with the team.
