Chiefs to re-sign DT Phil Hoskins

The Kansas City Chiefs have brought back a player who was a late addition to the practice squad last year.

According to The Score’s NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, the Chiefs have re-signed DT Phil Hoskins. A former seventh-round NFL draft pick by the Carolina Panthers in 2021, Hoskins played collegiately at the University of Kentucky, where he played under former Chiefs assistant coach and current LSU defensive coordinator Matt House.

Hoskins signed with the Kansas City practice squad on January 12 after he was released by Carolina. He was on the practice squad with the Chiefs throughout t the playoffs and Super Bowl LVII, which means he’ll get a Super Bowl ring.

Listed at  6-5 and 315 pounds, Hoskins appeared in five games for the Panthers in 2022, playing a total of 44 defensive snaps. During the course of his two seasons in Carolina, Hoskins managed six total tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack.

The Chiefs seem to be beefing up their interior defensive line room with some competitive depth between Hoskins returning and the recent addition of Byron Cowart. Hoskins has a bit of a leg up on the competition being that he spent some time in the system last year.
