For the third consecutive season, the Kansas City Chiefs’ nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award has won the accompanying Nationwide Charity Challenge.
The Chiefs Kingdom has a stranglehold on these online fan votes. Last season they voted Tyrann Mathieu as the winner of the Nationwide Charity Challenge. The season prior, they voted Travis Kelce as the winner. This season, the fans tallied the most votes for Patrick Mahomes on Twitter. As a result, $25,000 will be donated to his 15 and the Mahomies foundation.
“It is a tremendous honor to win this year’s Charity Challenge,” said Mahomes, via press release. “Since before I joined the League, it has been a goal of mine to make a lasting impact on the communities that have given so much to me. Brittany and I are forever grateful for the continued support and passion that we receive from Chiefs Kingdom both on and off the field. Thank you to all of the incredible fans that voted for me for this honor and the continued support for our efforts with 15 and the Mahomies. Together, we are making a lasting impact on kids in underserved communities.”

Washington Commanders OT Charles Leno finished second in voting and a charity of his choosing will receive $10,000. Buffalo Bills OT Dion Dawkins finished third in voting, which means his designated charity with receive a $5,000 donation.
Mahomes is now the fourth player for Kansas City to win the Charity Challenge along Mathieu, Kelce and former Chiefs S Eric Berry, who won the inaugural Charity Challenge in the 2015-2016 NFL season. This is the ninth year that Nationwide has sponsored the Charity Challenge, which means that a Chiefs player has won it 44.4% of the time. Keep up the good work, Chiefs Kingdom.
Remember, this is separate from the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. The winner of that award will be chosen at the NFL Honors Ceremony ahead of Super Bowl LVII and will receive a $250,000 donation to a charity of their choice courtesy of the NFL Foundation and Nationwide.
