Chiefs LB Justin Houston could be the pass rusher the Steelers need

News out of the NFL scouting combine is the Kansas City Chiefs could be shopping outside linebacker Justin Houston. According to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, Houston, who is entering his ninth season could be a casualty of his own huge salary. Is this a player the Pittsburgh Steelers should inquire on to help bolster the pass rush?

Houston looked like he was going to be the next great NFL pass rusher when he came into the league. In 2014, Houston led the league with 22 sacks. But injuries over the next two seasons set him back.

He did bounce back somewhat in 2017 with 9.5 sacks and 2018 with 9.0 but at 30 years old with a $21.1 million cap hit he’s become expendable. This move would also signal the team going all in on Dee Ford.

If the Steelers could get Houston for a mid-round pick would it make sense? The team needs a player to line up opposite T.J. Watt who can consistently rush the passer and even when he isn’t 100 percent, Houston is better than Bud Dupree. There are multiple players on the trading block Pittsburgh could make a move for to put this team over the top in 2019.
