Chiefs DE Frank Clark pleads not guilty to gun charge from first offseason arrest

Kansas City Chiefs DE Frank Clark appeared before a Los Angeles courtroom for the first time on Monday, entering his plea stemming from his March 2021 arrest — the first of two arrests this offseason.

According to a report from our friends at WDAF-TV FOX 4 Kansas City, Clark entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of felony possession of an assault weapon. Clark and another man were pulled over in LA County for not displaying a front license plate. During the stop, officers claim to have noticed a firearm in a bag in the backseat, eventually searching the vehicle and finding two loaded guns.

In June, Clark would be pulled over for a second time, this time for a vehicle code violation. During the stop, Clark was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed firearm in the vehicle when an officer spotted a firearm in a bag. Clark’s attorney maintains the firearm belonged to the defensive end’s security team.

The 28-year-old Clark is in just his third season with the Chiefs in 2021 after joining the team via trade with Seattle Seahawks back in 2019. He signed a five-year contract extension worth over $100 million after joining the team, making him the highest-paid defensive player in Kansas City. So far this season, Clark has played in a single game, recording two tackles, a tackle for loss and one pressure. Separate hamstring injuries kept him out of action in Week 1, and in Week 3 and 4.

Clark’s original arraignment date was postponed from July until October. He’s next due in court on January 17, 2022, which would be right in the thick of the playoffs should the Chiefs advance.
