Chiefs claim Ravens OL Greg Senat, waive DL Joey Ivie

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced a roster move on Monday.

They’ve claimed former Baltimore Ravens OT Greg Senat off of waivers. With more than six days to prepare for the upcoming matchup between the Chiefs and the Ravens, this is a legal roster move for the Chiefs to make.

The Chiefs already have 10 offensive linemen on the active roster. However, this signals that Eric Fisher’s groin injury could potentially keep him out for a while. Fisher tried to tough it out and play in Sunday’s Week 2 game against the Raiders but reaggravated the injury after just four snaps. Groin injuries can linger, so even if Fisher’s injury wasn’t significant there was likely a need to add some more depth at the tackle position.

Senat was drafted by the Ravens in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL draft out of Wagner. At 6-feet-8 and 305 pounds, Senat is a towering offensive tackle that can generate some movement in the ground game. That could be crucial considering that Cameron Erving struggled mightily vs. the Raiders when the Chiefs tried to run the ball.

Senat spent most of his rookie season on injured reserve with a foot injury. He was released by the Ravens to make room for Maurice Canady as the team dealt with some CB injuries. They did have a desire to bring Senat back on the practice squad if he cleared through waivers.

The Chiefs have a free spot on the practice squad after elevating Byron Pringle. If Ivie clears waivers he could potentially rejoin the Chiefs on the practice squad. Look for a team like the Eagles, which suffered some defensive line injuries to have an interest in claiming Ivie.
