The Kansas City Chiefs have done the leg work to see what one player would cost them in a trade ahead of the November 2 deadline.
A report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler first broke 10 days ago, saying the Chiefs had looked into a trade for Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack. A new report from USA Today’s Josina Anderson confirms that Kansas City was among the teams that had made a “preliminary inquiry” into acquiring Mack in trade.
The other teams checking in include the Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints. The common denominator is that each team is dealing with some injuries at the running back position to varying degrees of seriousness.

Mack has slid down the depth chart with the emergence of teammates Jonathan Taylor and Jordan Wilkins. Mack missed the majority of the season in 2020 with an Achilles injury, but he combined for nearly 2,000 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in the two seasons prior. He’s seen the field sparingly in 2021, recording just 97 yards on 25 attempts over four games active.
Making an inquiry into a player’s cost and availability is fairly common this time of the year. Given the timeline of Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s injury, combined with Darrel Williams having a standout performance in Week 6, it seems increasingly likely that this will be anything more than a preliminary look for Kansas City.
