Chicago Tribune Phil Rosenthal column

July 13--Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's presidential campaign logo features an "E" stylized to evoke an American flag, just like the logo for the America's Best Contacts Eyeglasses chain. Voters can decide whether that's myopic or farsighted or a bit blind.

Cubs co-owner Todd Ricketts will be the Walker campaign's finance co-chair. On CBS' "Undercover Boss" in 2010, Ricketts tried to mask his failure as a Wrigley Field vendor by buying hot dogs himself and throwing them out. What happens if he can't sell Walker?

Duff Beer from "The Simpsons" is being introduced for real in Chile. No one seems concerned that Homer, Barney and other Duff drinkers at Moe's Tavern appear jaundiced.

Berkeley Breathed has revived his Pulitzer Prize-winning 1980s "Bloom County" comic via his Facebook page. Fans can only hope today's Opus the penguin is consistent with the one they revered in the original strip -- and portrayed by Gregory Peck.

As to whether Donald Trump's candidacy factored into unretirement, Breathed wrote, "This creator can't precisely deny that the chap you mention had nothing to do with it." David Letterman interrupted retirement to read a Trump-themed Top 10. Some candidates talk about Americans working more; Trump makes it happen.

Drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman escaped prison in Mexico via a ventilated and lighted mile-long tunnel. This makes Guzman again a wanted man in Chicago, both because it was a hub in his distribution network and because it could use his infrastructure-building expertise.

Leslie King Jr. was born 102 years ago Tuesday. His mother remarried and renamed him as a toddler, though he didn't make the change legally until age 22. Ironically, if he hadn't, our nation's bicentennial would have been presided over by a King, not Gerald Ford.
