Fishing is very restricted at Navy Pier during the closure.
As chair of the Chicago Fishing Advisory Committee, Carl Vizzone asked Brian Murphy, Navy Pier’s chief operating officer, about the status of fishing at Navy Pier during the closure.
Because of the impact of the pandemic, Navy Pier’s final day was Sept. 7. The anticipation is that Navy Pier will reopen in the spring.
As to the fishing question, Murphy replied, “Fishing access is currently available on the northwest wall of Navy Pier, just adjacent to the CTA bus depot. Access to Navy Pier parking is strictly for Offshore/Hotel parking, so fisherman will need to seek parking elsewhere during our closure.”
That greatly restricts fishing access at Navy Pier. Pre-pandemic, Navy Pier had that northwest corner and the length of its north side open to fishing and there were even special parking rates before 10 a.m. for anglers.
On a side note, though the Chicago Fishing Advisory Committee has not met officially for half a year, fishing issues are still being addressed and there will be more fishing news coming.
