Several roads in Chiang Mai city were flooded on Tuesday as storm Kajiki dumped heavy rain on northern Thailand, but continued to weaken.
The Chiang Mai Municipal Office reported flooded roads around Suthep market, locally known as Talad Ton Payom.
Workers were draining floodwater and officials were directing traffic on submerged roads.
Northern and parts of northeastern Thailand were feeling the first impact of former typhoon Kajiki, which ravaged Vietnam before it moved into Laos.
The typhoon was downgraded to a tropical storm when it entered central Laos on Tuesday morning, the Thai Meteorological Department said.
It has issued flood warnings for northern and northeastern regions ahead of the arrival of the storm, expected on Tuesday evening.
The northern weather office warned of downpours and possible gale-force winds in all northern provinces until Wednesday.
