RAIPUR: Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh recorded 100 per cent vaccination target by administering 7,51,374 vaccines for both first and second doses in 342 days. Having a target population of over 7,22,575 in the district for second dose of vaccination, the officials said that they covered more than 100 per cent targeted population as it covers other eligible beneficiaries as well.
Raigarh was the first district from state to have recorded 100 per cent vaccination target in the month of November and was among the leading districts in the country.
The achievement was celebrated by the health officials and workers.
Mahasamund collector Doman Singh said that it is because of the sincere efforts and dedication of the team of administration as well as health department that followed discipline and strategy the district became fully vaccinated.
S Alok Ceo Zila panchayat said that it took about eleven months and eight days' time to saturate 100 per cent administration of both the doses while the vaccination drive started in January 16. With continuous effort and working on a war footing level against Covid-19, the team workers went from door to door, set up vaccination camps and ensured that each and every person gets the jab.
Amid challenges mainly in the rural areas where people expressed resistance to get the jab, the Covid warriors would ensure to spread awareness before launching the vaccination drive and by encouraging songs, reading newspaper articles and sending out messages, they used to convince and spread awareness among people.
Saraipali block in the district became the first to complete vaccination on September 4 while on October 2, all the eligible people were administered with first dose in the district.
Officials said that the vaccination drive would continue and it will mainly target the youths above 18 years of age and others who couldn’t get the doses on time.
The total population of Mahasamund district is 11,85,039 while the total targeted population for vaccination was 7,22,575 and now the fully vaccinated with both the doses are 7,51,374.
Mahasamund presently has 10 active cases of Covid-19 and it recorded one case on Friday while it has recorded 367 deaths so far.
