Chhattisgarh: Defunct mobile phone suspected cause of teen girl’s suicide

RAIPUR: A class IX student ended her life by hanging herself to death in Durg district. The preliminary probe suggests that the girl was extremely upset with her mobile phone going defunct for the past fortnight. No suicide note was recovered from her room.

The incident took place in Risali region of Bhilai where the 16-year-old was found hanging inside her room on Sunday. Girl’s parents are shocked, inconsolable, and not in a condition to give much information to the police about the girl’s last day's behaviour.

Police investigation revealed that the girl was sharp in her studies but was lately upset with her mobile phone not working, and the family was well aware about it. However, they couldn’t imagine it as the reason for the extreme step.

Police would question the family members and friends once they are emotionally settled. The incident raises concern on the way electronic gadgets and mobile phones are driving the teens' emotions and psychologically trapping them.
