Feb. 12--Muhahahaha!
When considering a set of track-ready option packages that give the 2017 Chevy Camaro even more, there isn't much to say. Chevy muscle aficionados will smile, pat their shifter knobs and say from behing face-splitting grins, "1LE" is back." Owners of lesser cars will say, "Uh, oh ... "
The Camaro was already a lot of car for the money. The 1LE packages for the V8 and (for the first time) the 335-hp V6 Camaro, raise the bar for a car that doesn't need a ton of help in making mischief. You rat racers and stoplight grand prix aficionados will want to tread lightly when you see a Camaro with a matte black hood -- that is, once you stop giggling at the gremlin-looking green that one Chevrolet rep called Krypton Green.
It looks like it could bring down super cars.
Everything is more: brakes (4-pot fronts on the V6, 6-potters on the V8), 20-inch rubber (wider on the SS), downforce, a track cooling package (oil, diff, and trans), shorter-throw shifter, even a strut tower bar so that when owners pop the hood, they feel all special and stuff.
A manual gearbox will be the only option with the track packages, which makes us smile. Given the effect that the 1LE package had on the fifth-generation Camaro, the same setup on a much-better car should be ... well ... even more.
The 1LE packages are scheduled to debut in late 2016, with pricing to be announced.
