Cheryl's sold out West End debut 'delayed' due to show's popularity

Cheryl's West End debut in 2:22 A Ghost Story was delayed – but only due to the popular show being sold out.

The X Factor legend, 39, took over from former Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore as she took on the role of Jenny in the supernatural thriller.

Her debut was meant to be at 7:30pm tonight at the Lyric theatre in Piccadilly in London.

However, the show didn't kick off until just under 15 minutes later as it took slightly longer due to the show being sold out, Cheryl's rep has confirmed to the Mirror.

"The show started at 7.44pm and everyone was in their seat at this time," they said.

"It was slightly delayed as it’s the first preview and it was completely sold out, so there were a lot of people to get into the theatre."

Earlier, it reported that showgoers were still waiting in line to get in by the time call time came around as the rehearsals overrun.

A source claimed to The Sun: "Everyone was stunned. At 7.30pm the theatre sent out staff to check everyone in the queue has tickets, which they did, and confirm the start would be delayed until everyone was in."

A member of staff reportedly said it was 'bedlam'. But, this has since been denied by Cheryl's representative as they said: "Rehearsals did not overrun".

Cheryl announced her West End stint to fans last month - with celeb pals like Paris Hilton, Vicky Pattison and Rylan all congratulating the mum-of-one on her career change.

The Fight For This Love singer is starring alongside People Just Do Nothing’s Hugo Chegwin as Ben, Horrible Histories actress Louise Ford as Lauren and theatre star Scott Karim as Sam for a 14-week run.

A source recently claimed that Cheryl is hoping to 'reinvent' herself in 2023.

"Cheryl wants to reinvent herself in 2023. She was on TV all of the time, she was the sweetheart of the nation. But she stepped back for a while to focus on being a mother," a source has told new! magazine.

"She's excited to be coming back. Some things haven't worked out in the past that she's tried, but this is a very exciting time for her."

The source went on to add how Cheryl has wanted to "get back on the scene" for a while.

Other celebrities who have starred in the successful West End show include Lily Allen and Giovanna Fletcher.
