Chennai Super Kings commence pre-season camp; Deepak Chahar eyes national comeback

NEW DELHI: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) kick-started their pre-season camp in preparation for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, with the focus on pacer Deepak Chahar aiming for a national comeback through stellar performances for his franchise. The IPL is slated to commence on March 22.

According to a Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) official, the first batch of local Indian players arrived on Friday, with more expected to join in the following days. The confirmed arrivals included Simarjeet Singh, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Mukesh Choudhary, Prashant Solanki, Ajay Mandal, and Deepak Chahar.

Chahar, who hasn't played cricket since December due to personal reasons, withdrew from the T20 series against Australia and opted out of the South Africa tour to be with his ailing father. However, having declared himself fully fit after training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, Chahar is keen on making a comeback to the national side for the T20 World Cup scheduled for June in the Caribbean and the USA.

While the arrival of CSK captain MS Dhoni is yet to be confirmed, he was seen attending a pre-wedding function in Jamnagar on Friday along with his wife Sakshi. Dhoni's presence at the camp is eagerly anticipated by fans and teammates alike.

CSK is scheduled to commence their IPL 2024 campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on March 22. As the players gear up for the upcoming season, the pre-season camp serves as a crucial platform for fine-tuning skills, building team chemistry, and strategizing for success in the highly anticipated tournament.
