Chennai: Man takes to robbery after big loss in business, held

CHENNAI: An oil shop owner who took to chain snatching after suffering a loss in the business was arrested at Ambattur on Tuesday. Police said Sasikumar, 41, of Korattur owned a shop selling oil and after he suffered a loss in the business due to the pandemic, he took to crime.

Six months back he reportedly couldn't make the desired profit so started targetting women in Ambattur, Mudichur, Pattabiram and Muthapudupet. "He would ride his two-wheeler and snatch women’s chains in the mornings," said an investigating officer. Following complaints from women, police checked the CCTV footage and found the man. He was soon caught during a vehicle check in Ambattur. Police said he has snatched over 20 sovereigns so far.
