CHENNAI: A couple, who smuggled and sold ganja, was caught during vehicle checks on Wednesday. Thiagaraja and Priya, residents of Vyasarpadi, were riding on a bike when they were stopped as part of the vehicle inspection on Republic Day at Ilaya Mudali Street in New Washermenpet. On spotting the police, they tried to escape.
Priya was carrying a cloth bag, and on examining their belongings, cops retrieved four kilograms of ganja. Inquiries revealed that the couple was headed to their relative’s house in New Washermenpet when they were caught red-handed. The police have registered a case and arrested the duo, who was sent to Puzhal prison. The police also seized the couple’s bike. tnn
