Chelsea vs Johor Darul Ta'zim LIVE: Friendly match result and latest updates from bad-tempered game

Chelsea vs Johor Darul Ta'zim LIVE - (Getty)

Chelsea vs Johor Darul Ta'zim LIVE

Chelsea rounded off their pre-season tour with a chaotic 3-3 draw against Johor Darul Ta’zim in Malaysia, in a match that ended with tempers flaring and seven yellow cards. The hosts struck first against the run of play, exposing a Chelsea back three that looked increasingly vulnerable. JDT repeatedly tested the Blues with late challenges and off-the-ball exchanges, with Tosin Adarabioyo among those visibly frustrated by the hosts’ approach.

Liam Delap restored parity from the penalty spot shortly before half-time, but missed a golden opportunity moments later to put Chelsea ahead. The striker made amends after the break, converting another penalty to give the visitors the lead. Chelsea, however, were unable to see out the game. JDT struck twice in the closing stages to turn the contest around, only for Mykhailo Mudryk’s cross to be turned into his own net by Antonio Glauder as Chelsea snatched a late equaliser.

A penalty shootout had been expected to decide the match, but the CFC+ commentary team suggested the spot-kicks were abandoned because of the increasingly heated atmosphere. Chelsea now turn their attention to the new season.

Penalties cancelled!

15:06 , Alex Young

Oh, the penalties have been cancelled!

Chelsea TV suggest that the bad tempers may have contributed. Chelsea players were all ready to step up.

So, it finishes as a draw.!

15:02 , Alex Young

Bit of a delay, but pens are on the agenda.

We will go to penalties.

JDT 3-3 Chelsea

14:51 , Alex Young

89min: Time for a(nother) winner?

GOAL!

14:51 , Alex Young

88min: They’ve done it!

I think it’s an own goal off a Mudryk cross. Cristian seems to chest the ball into his own net under pressure from Watson.

JDT 3-2 Chelsea

14:50 , Alex Young

87min: Mudryk and Satpaev are on looking for an equaliser.

GOAL!

14:48 , Alex Young

86min: Yes we will! JDT look to win it in the final minutes!

Bergson picks up the ball around 35 yards out, runs at the Chelsea defence and drills a finish inside the far post!

Slonina gets fingertips to it, but can’t keep it out.

More awful defending.

JDT 2-2 Chelsea

14:47 , Alex Young

85mins: Heading into the final five minutes - will we have a winner?

JDT 2-2 Chelsea

14:44 , Alex Young

83min: Not often you see a friendly with seven yellow cards.

JDT 2-2 Chelsea

14:39 , Alex Young

78min: The hosts are making some changes.

JDT 2-2 Chelsea

14:34 , Alex Young

73min: Gittens with a shot straight down the keeper’s throat.

It’s been a real test, this, for Chelsea. Alonso’s tactics need rethinking.

JDT 2-2 Chelsea

14:30 , Alex Young

68min: It’s all kicking off again after Glauder went right through the back of Delap.

Glauder gets booked, but here’s Tosin and Jackson to vent their anger at the persistent fouling.

GOAL!

14:27 , Alex Young

65min: All square again!

Arribas’ free kick deflects off the wall and spins over Slonina.

GOAL!

14:23 , Alex Young

62min: Delap makes no mistake again, in off the inside of the post. He is very good at spot-kicks, isn’t he.

PENALTY TO CHELSEA

14:22 , Alex Young

60min: JDT players are furious. Gittens has been fouled.

JDT 1-1 Chelsea

14:17 , Alex Young

56min: Again the Chelsea backline is static, allowing Arribas to run to the touchline and cut a pass back but he put way too much on it so the ball flashes through a sea of legs.

JDT 1-1 Chelsea

14:16 , Alex Young

55min: Estevao now gets booked for a little kick out after not winning a penalty.

Both teams at it today.

JDT 1-1 Chelsea

14:14 , Alex Young

52min: Another foul off the ball by a JDT player as Silva just clotheslines Quenda.

He gets a booking.

I wonder if they are usually this dirty.

JDT 1-1 Chelsea

14:12 , Alex Young

51min: Gittens with an almost disaster 20 seconds as he’s caught out in possession, tries to win the ball back, fails, tries again and then fouls the player.

He is not a wing-back.

SAVE!

14:11 , Alex Young

49min: JDT should be back in front!

Back line is static as Zahedi breaches the defence and has the whole penalty area to himself with just Slonina to beat, but the keeper makes himself big and pulls off a huge stop.

JDT 1-1 Chelsea

14:09 , Alex Young

47min: Chelsea straight on the front foot as first Jackson and then Watson try to wriggle into the area.

Second half!

14:07 , Alex Young

46min: Back underway.

14:07 , Alex Young

Right, changes have been made as Slonina has replaced Sharman-Lowe.

14:04 , Alex Young

Players are on their way back out.

14:00 , Alex Young

We await news of any half-time substitutions. No update yet on Sarr’s late withdrawal from the starting line-up.

13:56 , Alex Young

So, that was oddly bad-tempered from JDT. No surprise that they are pumped up, and want to prove themselves, but some of the fouling was unnecessary.

Can’t imagine Alonso is too happy.

Half-time!

13:49 , Alex Young

49min: There’s the whistle.

JDT 1-1 Chelsea

13:49 , Alex Young

48min: Delap looks certain to put Chelsea ahead, after being found by Jackson, but shanks the shot wide with the keeper closing him down.

Best chance for Chelsea, that.

JDT 1-1 Chelsea

13:46 , Alex Young

46min: Three minutes added on.

JDT 1-1 Chelsea

13:46 , Alex Young

44min: Chelsea with a bit of momentum after leveling the scores.

Gittens skins Israfilov twice, and then just gets pushed over for his troubles. Very strange reaction!

And then even stranger is Delap, who rushes in and has a word with Israfilov and gets booked for his trouble. No need!

GOAL!

13:42 , Alex Young

42min: Delap dusts himself off and slams home the spot kick. Super finish.

All square in Malaysia.

PENALTY TO CHELSEA!

13:41 , Alex Young

41min: They needed that! Great work by Delap to win it.

JDT 1-0 Chelsea

13:40 , Alex Young

39min: JDT are pinging it to the flanks at every opportunity. This three-man defence is not working. Tosin is being run ragged and Subuloye is chasing shadows.

JDT 1-0 Chelsea

13:37 , Alex Young

36min: I’m not sure Chelsea were quite expecting this game to be as competitive as it is.

Hey, it’s a good run out at least. Could do without injuries though.

JDT 1-0 Chelsea

13:34 , Alex Young

34min: It’s not the most friendly of pre-season friendlies as Jackson is again on the wrong end of a tough tackle.

JDT 1-0 Chelsea

13:32 , Alex Young

31min: JDT should have a second! Marcos Guilherme again very lively down the left as he skips into the area, looks to find a team-mate in space, opts against it and then gets a shot of his own blocked.

He made the wrong choice there. Zahedi was screaming for the ball.

JDT 1-0 Chelsea

13:30 , Alex Young

30min: Reggie Watson is on to replace Anselmino.

JDT 1-0 Chelsea

13:29 , Alex Young

28min: Yeah, he’s coming off. Poor bloke, looks absolutely gutted.

JDT 1-0 Chelsea

13:28 , Alex Young

27min: Oh dear, this doesn’t look good for Anselmino. He looks quite upset after suffering what looks like a hamstring injury.

JDT 1-0 Chelsea

13:23 , Alex Young

23min: And now a hydration break.

JDT 1-0 Chelsea

13:23 , Alex Young

22min: The corner eventually comes in, and comes to nothing.

JDT 1-0 Chelsea

13:23 , Alex Young

20min: A big scuffle as Chelsea line up for a corner, with Tosin fully involved and looking extremely angry after Medina shoulder barged him from behind.

I don’t blame Tosin for being annoyed!

JDT 1-0 Chelsea

13:17 , Alex Young

16min: Deary me, Sharman-Lowe just booted the ball straight to JDT. They could not capitalise, but Chelsea need to take a minute to settle.

GOAL!

13:15 , Alex Young

14min: The hosts are ahead!

A blistering counter, but Chelsea give them so much space as Marcos Guilherme drives into their half and puts it on a plate for captain Arif Aiman to slot home at the back post.

JDT 0-0 Chelsea

13:14 , Alex Young

13min: Chelsea are starting to rack up the chances. This time Estevao opts to find Jackson on the left, who cuts inside and forces a save from Syihan Hazmi.

Estevao is there for the rebound, but the bounce is not kind and he cannot get a firm connecton, so his shot bobbles wide.

JDT 0-0 Chelsea

13:12 , Alex Young

10min: Space opens up for Estevao on the right-hand side as he darts into the area. The Brazilian cuts onto his left but bends his shot high and wide.

That was a chance.

JDT 0-0 Chelsea

13:09 , Alex Young

7min: Half a sight of goal for our hosts, who are not here just to make up the numbers.

Tosin required with a big header to clear the ball away from a lurking Zahedi in the centre.

JDT 0-0 Chelsea

13:05 , Alex Young

4min: It’s all Chelsea in these opening stages. Jackson appears to be playing off the left, with Delap in the middle.

JDT 0-0 Chelsea

13:01 , Alex Young

2min: There has already been a change to the lineup, ahead of kick-off, with Subuloye in for Sarr.

Kick-off!

13:00 , Alex Young

1min: Here we go.

12:56 , Alex Young

Johor Darul Ta'zim, also known as JDT thankfully, have won the last 12 Malaysia Super League titles.

Their stadium is quote special.

The teams are out.

12:51 , Alex Young

Kick-off is fast approaching.

12:44 , Alex Young

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mudryk get more minutes today. Here he is ahead of the game with Reggie Watson.

Captain Essugo on Alonso

12:35 , Alex Young

"In both sides, as a player and as a manager, he's very good. A very good person, very good tactically, and he has helped us a lot.

"So we are enjoying a lot with him, and this is the most important thing.

"[Pre-season] is very important to build connection to help each other because some players are here many years, others come now."

12:25 , Alex Young

Dario Essugo will captain Chelsea tonight. What a moment for the young midfielder.

12:20 , Alex Young

So, it’s a slightly stronger line-up than I expected, with all of Gittens, Estevao, Jackson and Delap starting.

Quenda on the right behind Estevao should be something to beyond.

Chelsea confirmed team news in full

12:12 , Alex Young

Chelsea XI: Sharman-Lowe; Sarr, Tosin, Anselmino; Quenda, Nicoll-Jazuli, Essugo, Gittens; Estevao, Jackson, Delap

Subs: Slonia, Curd, Subuloye, Diakite, Watson, Walsh, Kavuma-McQueen, Mudryk, Satpayev

Chelsea XI

12:09 , Alex Young

Here we are. No Colwill again.

12:07 , Alex Young

Chelsea have just dropped a video of the team arriving at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, and Levi Colwill has been spotted.

Joao Pedro and Pedro Neto, among others who played yesterday, are also there.

12:02 , Alex Young

Still no word from Chelsea regarding today’s team.

It will be interesting to see if Levi Colwill is able to play any part, having missed the last two games through injury.

11:39 , Alex Young

Team news should soon be confirmed, we’re expecting plenty of youngsters to be involved.

Alonso on today's plan

11:18 , Alex Young

“The idea, with the game against Milan and then one in Johor, was to arrive at this weekend with players not being ready for 90 minutes until now.

“We wanted to have a logical progression in their loads; so we had our plan and we’ve stuck to that.

“We have another idea [against Johor]; that was decided yesterday (Friday). The idea is that many young players were coming to have chances to play tomorrow.

“f not, we’d have been short, as playing two games in two days is quite intense. So we will need them.”

Chelsea team news

10:55 , Alex Young

Very few of the aforementioned players are expected to turn out at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, though Sarr got just two minutes off the bench so could be in contention at centre-back.

That means Mike Penders should start in goal, and the defence should include Tosin Adarabioyo. Olutayo Subuloye will be pushing for minutes, too.

Dário Essugo and Reggie Walsh could line up in midfield, while Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli, Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap and Dastan Satpaev should be given minutes.

Busy schedule

10:45 , Alex Young

Chelsea brushed AC Milan aside in Jakarta on Saturday as a double from Joao Pedro, either side of half-time, and a rocket of a volley from Moises Caicedo saw off the Italian side.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso named a strong line-up, which also included the likes of Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, Danny Welbeck, Wesley Fofana and Jorrel Hato.

All players played at least 59 minutes, while Robert Sanchez, Romero Lavia, Marco Palestra and Josh Acheampong played the full match.

Coming off the bench was Geovany Quenda, Nicolas Jackson, Estevao, Mykhailo Mudryk, Reggie Watson, Mamadou Sarr and Aarón Anselmino.

Chelsea predicted XI: Penders; Acheampong, Sarr, Tosin, Subuloye; Essugo, Walsh; Nicoll-Jazuli, Satpayev, Gittens, Delap
